ACTs for World Kindness Day

ACTs for World Kindness Day

I learned about World Kindness Day more than a decade ago, soon after my 1st book came out. It was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a coalition of nations’ kindness NGO’s.

Starting the process of writing a book can be terrifying. But the truth is that for my new book The Economy of Kindness: How Kindness Transforms Your Bottom Line, I also had an advantage. I’ve been speaking to audiences for years, and already had examples and input from 1000’s of employees.

For this month of our Act on 2021 series, I wanted to highlight how important it is to practice patience. On a recent road trip to the California Redwoods, we drove home through several Southern Oregon coastal communities. It was an absolutely breathtaking part of the state. What I wasn’t expecting was signs at a variety of restaurants and hotels, begging customers to be patient and kind with their staff.

The ImpACT

The ImpACT

More often than not, we do not always know the impact of our kindness gestures. Depending on where you live or how social you are, you may or may not know your neighbors. Many of us spent a lot of time in our neighborhoods this past year. Perhaps like me this gave you even more opportunities to get to know your neighbors.

tACTful Transitions

tACTful Transitions

For this month’s edition of the Act on 2021 series, I wanted to focus on making tactful transitions. As we adjust to reopening and resocializing, there are considerations we need to make to make the adjustment easier for all.

DeACTivating

DeACTivating

In today’s world, deactivating our technology and taking a break from our devices is uncommon. But there are huge benefits to not being plugged in all the time. For employers, allowing your staff to have separation provides them with essential work-life balance. For individuals, taking time away and deactivating is an act of self-care.

InterACTing With Awareness

InterACTing With Awareness

For this month of the Act on 2021 series, I wanted to talk about how vital it is going to be that we are interacting with awareness in these next few weeks. As we return to “normal” life we are definitely going to have some awkward transitions, as we remember how our actions have an effect on another person. I hope as we move forward some of our old ways to interACT will slowly resume.

The Last ACT

The Last ACT

This is not the last ACT or the end of the story. I bet I’m not the only one who has been reflecting recently on the long year we’ve moved through. A global pandemic arrived in the US and upended the world as we knew it last March.

ACTs of Loving Kindness

February is a month where acts of loving kindness seem to be all we think about. Love pertains to so many relationships. Love for our children, our family, a pet, or someone special.
