Boosting Energy and Productivity

Lately, it seems like everyone I talk to is feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. My remedy? Finding time for a power nap. It’s a simple yet effective way to recharge that can be a game-changer. Research shows that a 15-minute power nap between 2-4 pm is significant in boosting energy and productivity.

When the afternoon slump hits, find a cozy spot to unwind. Whether it’s a bench in a forest, a reclined car seat, or a quiet corner at work, a short nap can do wonders. Personally, I swear by noise-canceling headphones and eye shades for a quick reset.

I’ve found solace in unexpected places. A few months ago, I was traveling for speaker training. By the second day, I was exhausted from the time zone change, a full day of learning, and the lack of sleep in a “haunted house”—but that’s a story for another time. I found an empty classroom and laid down. Taking just 15 minutes to power down made a world of difference in my day. Sometimes, a little break is all it takes for our bodies to reset and refuel.

Creating Relaxation Spaces at Work

Reflecting on the importance of naps for personal well-being, I’ve been considering how organizations can better support their teams. Leaders, it’s crucial to assess the spaces provided for front-line staff. Are they truly conducive to relaxation and recharging?

Managers, take a moment to evaluate your break rooms. Are they inviting sanctuaries or neglected corners? Consider stepping into these shared spaces with a fresh perspective. Providing adequate downtime areas is essential, especially with the rise in mental health challenges.

Investing in Staff Well-Being

Creating tranquil spaces doesn’t have to break the bank. I viewed a quiet room several years ago at Canopy Wellbeing, established for about $500. Investing in staff well-being can set your organization apart. Let’s demonstrate to our teams that their welfare matters and actively show our support.

So, as you go through your day, remember to take a moment for yourself. A quick nap can make all the difference. Here’s to a recharged and refreshed you!
